Just over a week into the new year, no resolutions as such other than enjoying the winter delights of Karachi! Loved ones have flown back over the past week after their stints in the city for the wedding, full of good food and good times! It was a lovely way to end one year and start the next!
(This was a wedding gift from
my parents, sister, brother and godparents! An east meets west twist to the tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.)
A change from the usual healthy exploits of late, we are reaping the benefits of antioxidants through sweet welcome decadence. January loves are a piece of Butlers dark chocolate with whole almonds under the slow burn of a Jo Malone Red Roses candle, cuddled up with a heat pad until I am reunited with my significant other in a rather frozen Toronto!
Until then lovely bright pashmina shawls are keeping us all company in what turned out to be a rather chilly few weeks in Karachi. Have yet to indulge in a Kashmiri chai, far too busy enjoying other treats, like an aunt’s delicious homemade banana bread, full of yummy bananas and walnuts (nice hits of potassium and omega 3)! Seasonal fruit and veg has given us an orange and pomegranate juice glow. A favourite of mine, which I had this morning is beetroot, carrot and apple. Evenings with friends entail cracking open steaming hot monkey nuts alongside green tea stewed with cinnamon.
While the entire family gathered over a bowl of hot and sour soup, with cold busting and sinus clearing ingredients like tumeric, chilli and ginger we all made a wish for 2014, mine was that it continue in such a manner, with family and friends gathered over good food, having a wonderful time. May your year be blessed with such abundance too.
